Free summer fun activities across the borough

Tens of thousands of Tower Hamlets residents will benefit from dozens of free fun family activities running across the borough this summer.

Events and activities ranging from dance, fitness, theatre performance, art activities, a dog show and even a session on the art of making a great pizza feature in a spectacular line up of activities filling the summer and entertaining children and adults alike.

The whole range of activities across the summer is found in the 2017 summer activities booklet which lays out all the free fun events available:

• Summer park events
• Get out get active events -including free swimming for TH residents on Fridays and families on Saturdays
• Swimming fitness & fun
• A range Youth centre events including sport cookery careers advice

Tower Hamlets Council Mayor John Biggs said: “I’m proud of the free activities that this council provides to entertain and inspire our residents. They play a key part in making the Borough a great place to live, they bring us together and can help us lead healthy and happy lives”.

Victoria Park Day - A Great Day Out on 5 August will host 10,000 youngsters aged up to 11 years and their families in a major day of games and activities.

This month, a record number of parks in the Borough have been recognised with a prestigious Green Flag Award organised run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy marking them out as having the highest possible environmental standards, as beautifully maintained and with excellent visitor facilities.

Parks in Tower Hamlets receiving the award include ; Altab Ali Park, Island Gardens, Mile End Park, Millwall Park, St Georges Gardens, Poplar Recreation Ground, Meath Gardens, Trinity Square Gardens, Weavers Fields, Victoria Park.

The beach will come to Mile End Park when a day by the seaside on 16 August will see donkey rides, and a helter skelter the event last year attracted over 1700 sun- seekers. The park will also welcome the Park Life community fair and dog show with an expected 650 human and canine attendees.

Venues as diverse as our brilliant borough from Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, Whitechapel Gallery, St Katharine's & London Docks, the Whitechapel building, Middlesex Street Estate and Petticoat Lane and Mile End Park will all see a range of exciting activities.

Summer Fun lists events and activities that are taking place this summer in the borough. Find activities to keep children and young people busy and safe. There are various activities such as Stay and Play sessions in Children's Centres for under 5's, the Summer Reading Challenge in the Idea Stores and youth activities such as music, sports and arts & crafts. There are also one off events such as Takever 2017 where young producers and artists from 16-25 years are taking over the Rich Mix with 3 weeks of events, gigs, theatre, exhibitions and workshops. This year is all about revolution!
