Advice about your rights

You can find information and advice on your rights and entitlements, through a range of sources; including local advice agencies, solicitors, websites and telephone advice lines.

Through its partnership with voluntary sector advice agencies the council seeks to:

  • Actively promote benefit take up to ensure that residents are aware of their rights concerning benefits and tax credits
  • Ensure that assistance is given to residents to help them claim their benefit entitlement and maximise their income
  • Provide debt counselling and advice to residents who are experiencing financial difficulties
  • Contribute to reducing poverty and deprivation in Tower Hamlets.

The council funds a number of voluntary sector advice projects in Tower Hamlets to provide welfare benefits and debt advice to residents.

The Claim the Max project at Bow Citizen's Advice Bureau is also part funded by the council and offers benefit advice sessions at various centres in Tower Hamlets. The project provides:

  • Full confidential benefits and tax credit checks for free
  • Help with making claims, including filling out forms
  • Help with any benefit and tax credit queries and problems.

You can contact the Claim the Max project at Bow Citizen's Advice Bureau on:

Tel: 020 8709 9240
E-mail: info@claimthemax.org.uk

Detailed information on benefits and entitlements is available on the Department for Work and Pensions website.

You can also find information and advice on your rights and entitlements through the Citizen's Advice Adviceguide website.
