General eligibility conditions for grant aid
- The activities must contribute directly to priorities in the Tower Hamlets Community Plan or Strategic Plan, mainly benefiting people who live in Tower Hamlets.
- The activities are ones which we can fund by law.
- The organisation must show that it has a formal legal structure and the appropriate governing document defining what it is set up to achieve and its rules and procedures, and that it is operating within the conditions of its governing document.
- The activities that the organisation or project is applying for must be provided on a not-for-profit basis. If the organisation makes a profit, it must be used to pay for those activities.
- The organisation must be able to show that it is financially stable, has suitable premises, and has expertise to carry out and manage the activities that it needs funding for.
- The organisation must be able to show that it is taking reasonable steps to get funding for its activities (including those it needs the grant for) from sources other than the council.
- The organisation must show that it is managed by a committee which has local representation.
- The management committee of the organisation must fully reflect the interests of the users or potential users of the service to be provided. Wherever possible, user representatives should sit on the management committee.
- The organisation or project must show that it does not want to promote or oppose any political party or cause or otherwise get involved in party political activity.
- You must be able to show us that the organisation:
- has fair and equal practices in service delivery and employment, including working with volunteers;
- promotes equality through its activities; and
- keeps to anti-discriminatory legislation. - We will not fund activities which promote the adoption of a particular faith or religion.
- Activities involving religion or faith must contribute to promoting mutual understanding and respect between communities.
- Mainstream or specific grants will not be used to fund individuals.
- The organisation delivering the funded activities meets or is actively working towards the relevant quality-assurance standards for the activities being delivered.
- The activities contribute to greater mutual understanding, respect and good relations between different groups in the community. The activities will not lead to the long-term segregation of any particular groups. Segregation means keeping a minority group apart from the rest of the community.
- A set of outputs and outcomes have been agreed with us.
- Our monitoring requirements have been met.
