Social and health care
These grants support voluntary organisations, which provide services that meet the needs and priorities identified by the social services policy implementation committee.
Who can apply
Local voluntary organisations or national charities with an operational base in Tower Hamlets.
Priorities for funding
Adult services
We will give priority to organisations and schemes that:
- help shift the focus in social care to preventative, low-level services with an emphasis on links to communities and promoting opportunities for everyone to take part fully in society (social inclusion);
- offer and support greater choice and control for service users to help them maintain independence;
- have clear outcomes relating to improved health, improved quality of life, making a positive contribution, exercising choice and control, freedom from discrimination or harassment, economic wellbeing and personal dignity; and
- provide support to carers.
Due to a review of services, Elders Lunch Clubs that receive funding do not need to apply.
Children and family services
We will give priority to social care organisations and projects that help put the Children’s Act 2004 into practice. Proposals need to show they relate to at least one of the five outcomes identified by the Government as most important to children and young people.
The Government’s outcomes are for every child to have the support they need to:
- be healthy;
- stay safe;
- enjoy and achieve;
- make a positive contribution to society; and
- achieve economic wellbeing
Types of funding
The social services policy implementation committee decides total funding annually. In 2006/07 the social services mainstream grants budget was £591,678.
