Local compact

Why we have a local compact

At the heart of our compact and community plan is a commitment to excellent public services. Increasingly projects and services in Tower Hamlets are being delivered by partnerships. Making partnerships work is now more important than ever. Success depends on developing good relations between partner organisations.

The shared principles we have agreed locally are based on mutual respect, quality services, independence, accountability and joint working.

For statutory organisations in Tower Hamlets it pays to have a compact to demonstrate commitment to partnership working and to boost the prospect of external funders investing in the area.

For third sector organisations the compact acknowledges the value of the sector, their expertise and provides a commitment to fair funding. It provides a mechanism for holding statutory organisations to account. The compact is not just for organisations working with or funded by statutory organisations. The compact includes undertakings to outreach work and communication with smaller groups supporting excluded communities.
