Primary education

There have been significant improvements in the attainment levels of primary school pupils over the last five years and a steady reduction in the gap between borough and national performance.

Levels of absence continue to remain above the national average figure.

Secondary Schools

There has been consistent improvement in secondary school pupils attainment, particularly at GCSE level.

There are also disparities in the performance of pupils from different ethnic backgrounds with Caribbean and English, Scottish & Welsh pupils performing particularly poorly at GCSE level in comparison to pupils from Asian and Chinese backgrounds.

Absence levels are significantly above the national average level although there has been a significant reduction in this figure over the past year.
