Secondary school roll projections

There are 16 secondary schools in Tower Hamlets. In the academic year 2003/2004 secondary education was delivered to 12,877 11 to 15 year olds and to 1,638 16 to 19 year olds. Total secondary school net capacity or “places available” exceeds existing and projected rolls (Table 2).

Number of places available and number of unfilled places

Despite unfilled places and slight decreases in the 11 to 15 roll to 2008, there are no immediate plans to consider changes to secondary school provision. This is due to a reversal of the trend in net pupil losses up to 2008. Based on the pupil survival ratio, calculated using birth rates and net changes in pupil numbers, this anticipated increase in the total population of the borough will bring an associated increase in school age population (figures 21-22)
