St Paul, The Highway

The original St Paul’s was known as the ‘Sea Captain’s Church’ in the late 18th Century; the register lists the names of nearly 200 sea captains and their wives, and around 75 were buried in the churchyard. This was also the place where John Wesley preached his last sermon. Jane Randolph, mother of USA’s third President, Thomas Jefferson, was baptised in 1718. The existing church was built in 1817 after the old St Paul’s dilapidated.

St Matthias, Docklands

Although London Docklands has been transformed over the recent years, it’s surprising that there are still historical buildings amongst the new award-winning skyscrapers. St Matthias is the oldest building in the area and the only church interior remaining in London from the Interregnum period (1649 – 1660).

St Peter, Wapping

Built between 1865-66, this is England’s first Anglo-Catholic/High Church Anglican church.
