2005

  • 6 July – International Olympic Committee votes that London to host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games
  • July – London Olympics Bill introduced (now called the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Bill)
  • July – London 2012 lottery scratchcard is launched
  • December – DLR extension to London City Airport opens

2006

  • January – LOCOG fully set up
  • January – seventh carriage added to Jubilee Line trains
  • January – Olympic Park designers announced
  • February – programme manager contract advertised
  • March – London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act becomes law. Olympic Delivery Authority is set up
  • April – International Olympic Committee praises the Games’ organisers progress to date
  • Commission designs for venues
  • Launch of marketing plan and logo

2007

  • Spring – new DLR platforms at Stratford are due to open
  • July 6/7/8 – start of Tour de France in London
  • Complete land assembly and associated relocations
  • Work begins on the Olympic Village and the Velodrome
  • The Dome is due to open as a sports and music venue
  • Stratford International Station due to open
  • Langdon Park DLR station due to open

2008

  • Complete land remediation and burial of power lines
  • Work begins on the Olympic Stadium
  • Work on the Velodrome and the canoe slalom at Broxbourne is due to finish

2009

  • Work begins on Arena 3 (handball)
  • The East London Line extension is completed. In 2009 and 2010 longer trains will be introduced on the DLR. A DLR extension to Woolwich is due to open in 2009 and to Stratford International Station in 2010

2010

  • Work begins on the Arenas 1 (volleyball) & 2 (basketball), Greenwich Arena (badminton, rhythmic gymnastics), the hockey centre and media centre
  • Volunteer recruitment programme launched
  • 2010/2012 – test events

2011

  • Work begins on Arena 4 (fencing)
  • Work is due to finish on the Olympic stadium, the Olympic village, the Aquatics Centre, the hockey centre, Arena 3 and the media centre
  • Tickets go on sale

2012

  • Work finishes on Arenas 1, 2 and 4, and Greenwich Arena (they are all temporary venues)
  • 27 July-12 August – Olympic Games
  • 29 August-9 September – Paralympic Games
