Shielded by the descending slopes of the green bridge and from the Mile End Road by a dense belt of trees, the Terraced Garden is a quiet oasis of calm centred on a water cascade and fountain. The planting has been chosen to create a 'Garden of the Senses', playing on colour, aroma, sound and touch. A very popular lunchtime venue for picnics and an afternoon stroll.

Elderly residents living adjacent to the Garden requested a quiet place to sit, surrounded by colourful plants. From this starting point, a series of terraces have been created. Stepping down from the side of the bridge, the planted terraces descend to the main garden. Here, visitors can sit beside a water feature, which cascades down towards a fountain.
The planting of the Garden is designed to maximize sensory enjoyment and was originally planted in 2000 with the help of children and young people. As well as providing a rich variety of colour, plants have been selected for their attractive form, tactile qualities and odour. Sound also features in the Garden, centred round cascading water. The Garden is a sensory delight for people for all ages.
The Terraced Garden and Green Bridge were also used to develop a Maths trail as a practical resource to learn maths, based partly on the “Anorak Facts” series which give details on the construction of the park.
