Report an abandoned vehicle
One way that the London Borough of Tower Hamlets tries to improve the safety of the borough's streets is by removing abandoned vehicles.
Abandoned vehicles can be hazardous to others and can encourage further dumping of rubbish as well as crimes like vandalism and arson.
We actively encourage the reporting of abandoned vehicles and aim to have them removed as soon as possible.
You can use the online form here to report a suspected abandoned vehicle on the public highway.
Vehicles must have been seen in the same location for three weeks without being moved before they can be reported for investigation as a suspected abandoned vehicle
Vehicles abandoned on council estates should be reported to the local housing office for that estate.
Abandoned vehicles on private land should be reported to the landlord or managing agent for that location.
If the vehicle is displaying a valid Vehicle Excise Licence (tax disc), it cannot be removed as an abandoned vehicle.
What happens next:
Once the vehicle has been reported to us, we will send an officer to inspect it as soon as possible and within four working days. If it appears to be an abandoned vehicle, it will be issued with a notice informing any potential owner that unless it is removed, we will take steps to have it taken away for disposal.
If no one contacts us to claim the vehicle, it will either be removed within one working day if it is thought to be in a dangerous or unsafe condition, or within seven days if there is no danger to others. If the vehicle is burnt out, it will be removed immediately.
