Enquiry and prevention team

When someone is homeless or threatened with homelessness and they approach the Homeless Services for assistance or advice, they will be seen by the Enquiry and Prevention Team.

Our role is to prevent homelessness wherever possible so if a person or family are due to lose their home, we have a duty to ensure that we explore every option to prevent their home being taken away.

If you are threatened with homelessness, then as soon as a notice has been served, either verbally or in writing, you are strongly advised to make an application to the Homeless Services at the earliest opportunity.

If you make an application to Homeless Services, it is important you bring relevant documentation. You must provide I.D, the reason(s) for why you are homeless or being threatened with homelessness; ideally, you should bring any evidence that confirms your situation and proof of residence.

As the Enquiry and Prevention Team aims to intervene before people become homeless, it is very important that people let us know about any problems they are having with their housing situation - the earlier, the better.

If you are experiencing difficulties relating to your accommodation, call us or drop in to the office and an Enquiry and Prevention Officer will speak to you about your particular situation and the options that may be available to you.

Depending on your circumstances, we can arrange access to mediation, housing advice for private tenants, money advice, housing options and assistance with renting in the private sector.
