Homeless fraud team

The Fraud Team investigates possible cases of misuse of temporary accommodation; this could be where a homeless client is not residing in their temporary accommodation or is sub-letting it. Once a referral has been received we begin enquiries as soon as we can, usually within a week. We carry out many different enquiries to establish who is residing at a property. In some cases we find the property has been sub-let and the client is living elsewhere, while making money from the property and possibly defrauding the Housing Benefit system as well.

If we are satisfied the client is not using the property as their principal home we will end our duty, end the tenancy and remove the homeless sponsorship from the client. The standard of proof required to do this is very high, so we are very thorough in our investigation and evidence-gathering.

We rely on your vigilance and welcome all referrals. If you suspect a property is being misused, sub-let or not occupied, give us a call and we will investigate further.
