Reporting hate crime
There can be many barriers that deter people from reporting crime, many of which are hard for the police to tackle alone. The decision not to report a crime is often founded on a complex mix of individuals, emotions, perceptions and expectations.
In response, third party reporting sites have been set up at 18 locations – including local authority one-stop shops – across the borough. The main function will be to provide an initial point of contact for victims of hate crime – including disability incidents, race and faith incidents, domestic violence and crime against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender communities.
In addition to the reporting sites Tower Hamlets Police in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council have launched a telephone service to help victims of hate crime. There is a free phone telephone line 0800 138 0521 :
- Disability Hate Crime
- Racial & Faith Hate Crime
