What Supporting People Services can do for you

The Tower Hamlets Supporting People Team funds services which are designed to help people who require assistance to live as independently as possible in their accommodation.

We fund services which can help you to:

  • Settle in to a new home;
  • Develop the skills to live more independently, such as how to access benefits, and manage household responsibilities like budgeting and paying bills;
  • Access a range of things which are important for your quality of life such as health services, community organisations and social activities;
  • Deal with housing relating problems by providing advice, advocacy and liaison with other agencies.

Who is eligible for help from Supporting People services?

Supporting People provides services for a wide range of people including:

  • People who have been homeless or a rough sleeper;
  • People with drug or alcohol needs;
  • People with mental health needs;
  • Older people with support needs, mental health needs or dementia;
  • Victims of domestic violence;
  • People with a physical or sensory disability;
  • People with a learning disability;
  • People with HIV and AIDS;
  • Offenders and people at risk of offending;
  • Refugees;
  • Young people leaving care or at risk;
  • Teenage parents;
  • Travellers.

How can I access a support service?

Most people access support services after being referred by a professional advisor or organisation such as health services, social services, street outreach services or a local housing department or housing association.
