Deeds and leases

Deeds

The council does not retain the title deeds for properties that have been sold under the Right to buy.

Your title deeds are very important documents because they show who owns the property, or if it is a leasehold property, who owns the leasehold interest in the property.

If you have bought your property with a mortgage or a loan, the deeds will be retained by your lender. If you hold the deeds to your property yourself, you should ensure that they are kept in a safe and secure place.

Further information about obtaining copies of title deeds can be obtained from the HM Land Registry website or you can call them on: 020 7917 8888.

Leases

The council can provide you with a copy of the lease you signed when you purchased your property. You might need to obtain a copy of your lease if, for example, your lease is lost or destroyed or you change your name. The lease is not a substitute for the title deeds.

If you would like a copy of the lease, please use the contact details below, or apply here using our online form. It costs £25 and five days notice is required.

The council will check that you are entitled to have a copy of the lease before it is supplied to you.
