Repairs, home improvements & estate management
Reporting a repair to the council
If there is a repair problem on your estate or in the block where you live you can report it to the council’s repairs help centre. You will be asked for your address, telephone number and full details of the repair. Please give as much detail as you can.
You are mainly responsible for repairs inside your home and for items which only you use. This is explained in your lease. If you are not sure who is responsible for a repair the Repairs Help Centre will be able to help you.
For more information, read our repairs pages.
Can I make alterations to my home?
You will need written permission from the council to carry out works of a structural nature, or works that would affect another property or the landlords fixtures and fittings.
Please check your lease, or contact your local housing office for advice before carrying out the works.
We can also give you help and advice if you are disabled or a pensioner and would like to have adaptations made to your home to improve your mobility and comfort. You might need rails, ramps, a stairlift or a shower put in. If you want more information about adaptations of this nature, you can read about the house-proud scheme or you can contact the social services occupational therapy team on 020 7364 5948 or 020 7364 5945.
Who do I contact if I have an estate management problem?
Discuss the problem with your local housing office as they may be able to offer you help and advice. Your local housing office provides housing officers to look after your estate and provide an estate management service to tenants and leaseholders. You can see more information on services provided by local housing offices here.
