Tenancy checks
The council needs to ensure that only legal tenants occupy its properties to maximise its housing stock. We carry out regular tenancy checks to ensure this is the case.
We visit our properties on a regular basis to check that registered tenants are still in occupation. If a tenant isn’t occupying their property as their only or principal home, the council will consider taking legal action to recover the property.
If you need to go away from your home for a long period please let us know. If you are not living at your home, and you have not informed us, the council may begin legal action to evict you. You can read more about spending time away from home.
If you would like more information about tenancy checks, or suspect someone other than a tenant is living in one of our properties, please contact us using the details below.
