BSF – for the community

Building Schools for the Future (BSF) aims to put schools at the heart of their local communities. The modern vision of extended schools sees schools as assets which everyone can use and benefit from.

Local people will benefit directly from modern 21st century facilities such as computer, ICT and leisure facilities. New opportunities for lifelong learning such as evening and weekend classes will be open to everyone.

There will be a greater focus on extended schools, offering facilities such as:

  • early years and childcare/crèches
  • adult learning
  • breakfast clubs and after-school clubs
  • school holiday clubs
  • doctor’s surgeries, clinics and social services offices
  • public libraries
  • community sports facilities
  • community halls for drama, shows, meetings, exhibitions, etc.

News and opportunities to get involved are posted on the website regularly, come back and see what’s new.

To see what schools regenerated under BSF could look like, go to our useful documents page, and check out the ‘example designs’.
