Background information

Tower Hamlets Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP) was set up to address issues of quality and level of provision in early education, childcare, and out of school provision for children aged 0-14 (0-16 with special educational needs).

In doing so, the EYDCP aims to create new out of school and pre-school places to increase opportunities for local parents and children.

This underpins the regeneration of Tower Hamlets through providing childcare for working and training parents and carers and job opportunities in the field.

The partnership brings together representatives from the private, voluntary and maintained childcare, out of school and play sectors, the LEA, social services, health services, employers and parents.

All partners work together to agree and implement the EYDCP plans and is charged with strategically planning early education and childcare services for parents and children in Tower Hamlets.

The LEA is the accountable body for funding and, as a partner member is responsible for ensuring the EYDCP aims and objectives are met.

The EYDCP is the main vehicle for the strategic planning and development of childcare, early learning opportunities and play services within Tower Hamlets.

Involvement with employers at a local level is key to successful implementation of the partnership’s strategic aims.
