Book purchase scheme

The book purchase scheme allows schools to use the Schools library services stock of books and resources to identify good resources that can be bought for their own libraries. The Schools library services works alongside the local community bookshop, Eastside and also with regional library suppliers to provide these books. The service also produces regular listings of new books and specialist books.

Schools, nurseries and playgroups in Tower Hamlets and Hackney may subscribe to this service.

The service aims to:

  • Help schools to promote the enjoyment of reading and to enrich the National curriculum and National primary and secondary learning strategies
  • Provide schools with a wide range of high quality learning resources that reflect the multicultural and diverse community in Tower Hamlets in a balanced and accurate way
  • Provide schools with development and educational resources from the council’s Humanities education centre
  • Provide training and professional advice on the management and organisation of learning resources in schools
  • Provide the services of a professional librarian to work in schools on a regular basis to manage the school library and teacher resources.

For more information, please visit the Tower Hamlets Grid for learning.
