Learning resources loans

Learning resources loans

The Schools library services aims to provide schools with a wide range of high quality learning resources that reflect the multicultural and diverse community in Tower Hamlets in a balanced and accurate way. The service is an efficient, cost-effective way for schools to resource the National Curriculum and National Primary and Secondary Strategies and to promote the enjoyment of reading.

New resources are carefully selected by professional librarians and are added to the available stock each week. There are also resources that support the global dimension in the curriculum and that promote race and gender equality.

Every teacher in a subscribing school can borrow 60 items, which can be exchanged as often as wished. The 60 items can be any of the following:

  • Books, book and cassette packs, book sets and play sets
  • Story puppets and story tents
  • Historical, geographical, science and religious education artefacts, historical and world costumes
  • Pictures and posters
  • Musical instruments, DVDs, Videos, CD-ROMs
  • Bilingual resources
  • Multi-sensory books
  • Literacy and Numeracy resources arranged by genre for easy identification and use, including guided readers, schemes, literacy games and big books.

Additionally, books and journals are available to help with the professional development of teachers.

The Schools library services can also provide professional support, advice and training on the management and organisation of learning resources in schools as well as the services of a qualified librarian to work in schools on a regular basis to manage the school library and teacher resources.

For further information, please visit the Tower Hamlets Grid for learning.

Humanities education centre
