Sixth form access funds

Sixth form access funds are financed by the Learning and Skills council and the fund is divided into three areas:

  • A bursary fund
  • A hardship fund
  • A childcare fund

Who can apply

Sixth form access funds are for students resident in Tower Hamlets who are studying in school sixth forms and who have financial difficulties that affect their study and their academic performance.

Students who are studying in further education colleges and sixth form colleges are not eligible for the sixth form access fund which is only for students in school sixth forms.

Students studying in colleges and sixth form colleges who need financial help should apply to their college for the Learner support fund.

Applications

Applications for the fund are means tested and students who already have an Education maintenance allowance are not normally eligible for this fund.

To apply for a Sixth form access fund, please download the application form: Post 16 school access fund application form (pdf 88kb)

Application forms can also be obtained from the school where the student is studying or from the Tower Hamlets student finance department.

Sixth form students who are resident in Tower Hamlets, but who attend schools outside the borough need to contact the Tower Hamlets student finance department for an application form which must be countersigned by the school head of sixth form.

The Tower Hamlets student finance department can be contacted using the below contact details.
