Libraries

Tower Hamlets community libraries and Idea Stores aim to serve the local community with a range of services.

As well as offering a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books, all libraries also contain a small reference collection.

If a book is not available locally, is not in stock or is currently on loan, you can make a reservation.

The Tower Hamlets library catalogue is now available online. Users can use the online catalogue to view the catalogue and reserve and renew books online (users PIN number may be needed for some of these services).

Each library in the borough also has:

• Daily and weekly newspapers, and newspapers and journals catering for local ethnic communities
• Large print books, talking books and audio books
• A range of music, CD's and CD ROMs catering for a wide range of musical tastes
• A children's library with a range of storybooks, non-fiction books, magazines, audio books

Other services offered at libraries and Idea Stores:

• Photocopying services, and facilities for sending and receiving faxes
• Public access PC's
• Internet access
• Children's activities and events such as book readings

Those who have difficulty reaching their local library can also access the services of the Outreach Service.
