Fly-posting
Fly-posting is the erection of posters on trees, street furniture, post boxes, walls, buildings, utility boxes and telephone boxes and kiosks without the permission of the owner. Fly-posting is an illegal, anti-social activity that creates a negative impression of an area and contributes to people's fear of crime.
The council has a graffiti and fly-posting team to deal with this issue which was set up in November 2004. The council’s team removes illegally located posters, while enforcement options are being considered.
Other councils are also attempting to deal with the serious nature of this anti-social activity. There was a landmark court ruling made in the London Borough of Camden regarding the use of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs) against fly-posting companies. For more information, please refer to the news article on the court ruling made in Camden on the Camden council’s website.
