Crime & drugs reduction strategy 2005-2008
Strong, clean and safe communities are at the heart of our vision for Tower Hamlets. This strategy is about creating an environment in our borough where people can live, work and visit feeling secure and confident.
Fighting crime in the traditional sense is only one part of the picture. Through listening to our residents, we have developed a much broader concept of what living safely means.
We have made huge progress in cutting crime in recent years.
- street robbery is down nearly a third
- motor vehicle crime has fallen 20%
- and Tower Hamlets currently has the lowest burglary rate in Inner London.
These achievements are testimony to the impact of partnership working. Whether it be a voluntary organisation working with the police to make elderly people’s homes more resistant to burglars, community members sitting alongside Youth Offending Team staff on panels engaging with juvenile offenders, or prosecutors and the courts working together to streamline criminal trials, the key to success has been bringing our skills, experience and resources together to solve problems and achieve shared goals.
Our goal is to reduce crime by a further 20% over the next three years. This is ambitious, given the reductions we have already made. It will require more partnership working, targeting the prolific offenders of today while preventing the criminals of tomorrow.
We know what we want, and this strategy maps a way to get there. To read the Tower Hamlets Crime and drugs reduction strategy 2005-2006 us the link below:
