Police contacts

In a serious emergency you should telephone 999.

If your need is less urgent, your local police station is the starting point for you to access a range of support and crime prevention services in your community.

If you need to report a crime, and you are not in immediate danger - the police often prefer you to attend the station.

You can report property lost and found to police by telephone, but it is often in your best interests to attend the station personally.

For further information on reporting crimes, visit the Metropolitan Police web site.

If you are new to the area, the crime prevention unit at the local police station will be able to give you a profile of crime in the streets where you live. You can also get advice on how to put the safest locks and security equipment on your doors and windows.

Crime prevention officers will have advice about starting up your own neighbourhood watch scheme, or they can tell you if one already exists and what sort of crime prevention initiatives, such as radio remote burglar alarm testing, are being carried out in your area.
