When you're away

• Lock all doors and windows
• Lock sheds and garages and put tools and ladders away
• Tell your neighbours you'll be away, and how to contact you in an emergency
• Cancel regular deliveries like milk and newspapers
• Ask neighbours to remove any other deliveries
• Leave small, valuable items like jewellery or cash at the bank
• Leave a radio on a timer, preferably on a talk station, so it comes on a couple of times a day
• Use timer switches to turn lights and the radio on and off
• Set your alarm - and tell the police who the key holders are
