Windows
You can buy inexpensive window locks from locksmiths, hardware stores, DIY stores and builders' merchants.
Fit locks on windows on the ground floor, and those that can be easily reached from flat roofs or drainpipes. Use multi-point locks that secure the opening part of the window to the main frame.
For less vulnerable windows, such as those on upper floors, it may be enough to fit devices that restrict how far windows can be opened (child locks).
The glass should be fixed to the frame with security glazing beads, or internal beads.
If you are replacing windows, make sure they are installed to Glass and Glazing Federation and British Plastics Federation codes of practice. Frames should be strong and firmly secured to the building.
