Brick Lane youth development association (BLYDA)
Runs projects for young people aged 9-25 living in the Spitalfields area. These include a Youth Club, a Youth Information Shop providing advice on drugs, health, training, job applications etc. and a Community Safety Project dealing with youth crime, violence and other safety issues.

Caribbean African students project (CASP)
Raises educational attainment of African- Caribbean students in Tower Hamlets by helping reduce disaffection that may give rise to truancy.

Community families programme
A new programme focussing on the brothers, sisters and parents of children (5-13 years) who are ‘at risk’ of homelessness, poor academic/occupational achievement, drug misuse, criminal activities, family conflict and mental health issues.

From dependency 2 work (D2W)
Works with young people who have offended, or are involved in crime. Supports young people with drug misuse, alcohol, emotional, dyslexia, educational and employment problems.

Youth health and social inclusion project providing advice, advocacy, street-work, counselling, diversionary, preventative and educational schemes and peer education to young people.

Island neighbourhood project
Aimed primarily at Bengali, Somali, Kurdish and other Black and Minority Ethnic men. The objective is to engage men in constructive activities or in a forum that will help to reduce the fear of crime.

Junior citizens scheme
The scheme teaches young people how to be “good” citizens. It consists of ten different safety scenarios performed by staff from public agencies. The pupils deal with either life threatening or life saving situations, where they have to respond to the problem realistically:

Peer education programme

Tower Hamlets summer university (THSU)
THSU runs over 120 free courses each summer ranging from academic and vocational study, performing and visual arts, music, sports, information technology, personal development, entertainment and peer volunteer initiatives. The main THSU programme is for 14-25 year olds. The Junior Summer University is for 12 & 13 year olds.

Rapid response team
A rapid response system operated in partnership between the Police and the Youth Support Service to quickly respond to serious youth gang disorder. Runs a street work programme to reduce anti- social behaviour, youth conflicts and youth crime. Engages young people in conflict resolution, anger management and peer-led mentoring:

Tower Hamlets and City of London youth offending team (YOT)
The YOT is a multi-agency team,comprising police, local authority (social services, education, youth service), probation and health. The team works with young people from arrest tosentencing. The YOT provides services to the Youth Court, works with youngpeople given final warnings from thepolice and those given community sentences. The team also organises diversionary activities to prevent young people entering the criminal justice system.
