Crossrail
Crossrail is a £10bn initiative run by Transport for London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT) which will provide new rail links between east and west London, with the aim of easing congestion on the Underground and supporting proposed redevelopment in the area.

Crossrail Context Report - Prepared for London Borough of Tower Hamlets (August 2008)
Tower Hamlets has received the Crossrail Context Report. The Crossrail Act (passed by the parliament in July 2008) now gives certain permission for the proposed works to construct Crossrail, subject to conditions set out in the Act.
This Context Report presents an explanation of that work, and a programme with respect to the making of requests for planning permission and approval of details, and a high level description of highways and traffic related work within Tower Hamlets.

Crossrail Bill: Amendment of Provisions (AP4) and Supplementary Environmental Statement (SES4) May 2007
An Amendment of Provisions Environmental Statement (AP4) has been published. It contains details on revised proposals for the construction of works and acquisition of lands in the London Boroughs of Newham and Greenwich for the provision of a station at Woolwich and the realignment of running tunnels and associated works between North Woolwich and Plumstead.

In addition, a fourth Supplementary Environmental Statement (SES4) has been published and contains details of the assessment of revised arrangements for cofferdams in connection with the construction of a station at the Isle of Dogs, adjacent to Canary Wharf.

Council Response to AP4 and SES4
The petitioning period finished on Tuesday 12 June 2007and Tower Hamlets did not submit a petition against the AP4 or SES4. However a series of assurances were given by Crossrail on 11 June 2007 to address the borough's concerns.
