Welcome to the LGBT information page. Here you will find a list of organisations that provide services targeted at LGBT people and information about local events or meetings.

LGBT staff forum

The Tower Hamlets LGBT Forum was established in October 2006 and works to engage the LGBT community in the borough, helping it to shape the services that local residents receive.

Members of the LGBT Forum include Tower Hamlets Council, the PCT, police and local community and voluntary organisations .The Forum works to undertake Consultation and also to promote:

  • Community cohesion
  • Community empowerment and visibility
  • Trust between LGBT community and statutory agencies
  • Increased understanding
  • Increased the reporting of hate crime

The Forum is currently planning for LGBT History Month 2008 which takes place during February. Events and activities will be taking place throughout the month and will include a launch event on Friday 1 February, LGBT History Walks, a film night (including Q & As with a local director), a Valentine's Ball and the launch of a new group called Rainbow Parents.

Get involved in the Forum by coming along to one of the meetings which take place on the last Tuesday of every month. For more information about meetings, the Forum or any of the events planned for LGBT History Month contact:

Beaumont Society

As well as being a support network, the society keenly promotes the better understanding of the conditions of transgender, transvestism and gender dysphoria in society, thereby creating and improving tolerance and acceptance of these conditions by a wider public. They have a small number of dedicated personnel who are available to give talks and presentations on transgender issues to Health Services, Police, Samaritans, Social Services and other support organisations.

Beaumont Trust

This organisation is a charitable educational resource for medical, voluntary and lay people who require to increase their knowledge on the subjects of Transsexualism and Transvestism. It operates a helpline manned by a team of volunteers on Tuesdays & Thursdays between 1900 and 2300 hours.

East London Out Project (ELOP)

East London Out Project (ELOP) is the only LGBT centre in North East London. Tower Hamlets Victim Support has a specially trained homophobic crime worker to support LGBT people who have experienced a crime.
