Congestion charging scheme for central London
You can pay the congestion charge either in advance or on the day of travel before, during or after their journey. The charge is £8 if you pay by 10pm on the day of travel. An additional £2 surcharge will apply if you pay from 10pm until midnight on the day of travel. The total charge for paying between 10pm and midnight is £10. This is to encourage early payment.
There are some exemptions and discounts - for example disabled 'Blue Badge' drivers receive a 100% discount. Also, residents within the charging zone are eligible for a 90% discount.
The charge applies Mondays to Fridays between 7am and 6.30pm.
Drivers using the central zone must pay either in advance or on the day of travel in one of the following ways:
- by phone
- post
- on the internet
- or at various retail outlets
Part of the zone, and consequently the boundary, falls within Tower Hamlets borough.
