Parking enforcement
New parking penalties and parking charges from 1 July 2007
The Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for Transport have approved the following additional parking charges to take effect in the London boroughs from the 1 July 2007.
The introduction of differential parking penalties introduces two levels of fine payable for a Penalty Charge Notice. As such, the charges issued within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets will increase on the above date to:
- For parking penalties at the higher rate - £120 (Band A) reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days from the date of issue of the Penalty Charge Notice
- For parking penalties at the lower rate - £80 (Band A) reduced to £40 if paid within 14 days from the date of issue of the Penalty Charge Notice
- Penalty for contraventions of bus lane regulations - £120
- Penalty for a moving traffic contravention - £120
- Release of vehicle from pound - £200
- Release of wheel clamp - £70
- Storage charge (per day) - £40
- Disposal fee - £70

Additional parking charges on borough roads were last revised in April 2003. A major review takes place every four years and London Councils Transport and Environment Committee consulted widely on proposed changes in the summer and autumn of 2006.
This consultation included the possibility of different levels of penalty charges. Feedback supported proposals to link the level of charge to the seriousness of the infringement.
