Public service employees

These permits are for the following groups of people:

  • Those who work for charities and non-profit making organisations
  • Public Sector Workers e.g. social workers and midwives
  • London Borough of Tower Hamlets essential car users
  • LBTH contractors
  • Teachers and other staff delivering the curriculum in LBTH schools/colleges where off street parking is not available

If your organisation is non-profit making and provides a public service within the Borough you may qualify for a public service parking permit. You will also need to demonstrate that you need your vehicle with you during the course of the day in order to do your job.
There are three different application forms depending on which of these categories you fall into, for LBTH staff, school staff, and all other applicants. Please ensure you complete the correct form as different proofs are required for each one.

Public service permits can be used in residents’ bays, permit bays or the appropriate multi-use bays throughout the borough.

From 1 June 2008, the price of all on-street parking permits (except motorcycle and market trader permits) depend on either your vehicle’s carbon dioxide emissions (CO2 g/km), or engine size (cc) if your CO2 emission is not logged on your Registration Certificate (V5C) by the DVLA. A pool permit will be charged at the highest price band rate.

You are able to purchase a parking permit for 12 months or 6 months - prices also depend on the period of the permit you wish to purchase. A pricing schedule is attached to the application form.
