Parking controls
One way of ensuring that borough residents and local businesses have access to street parking is through the introduction of controlled parking zones (CPZs).
The main aim of CPZs is to discourage commuter and long stay parking by people from outside the area. To make sure that this works fairly, uniformed parking attendants enforce the zones.
Residents and local business people can use CPZ parking bays as long as their vehicle is displaying a valid parking permit.
If your home is subject to a car free development agreement you will not qualify for a resident parking permit or scratch cards.
When you are using a parking bay during controlled parking hours, please ensure:
- Your vehicle displays as valid parking permit
- The permit is valid for the bay you are using and it is displayed clearly on your windscreen
- Your vehicle is parked fully within the bay markings - your vehicle may be liable for a parking ticket if any of the wheels are parked outside of these markings
- The bay you are using has not been suspended.
Below are some of the most serious causes of traffic problems and congestion within London.
For information on the rules for these, please look at this leaflet (pdf 591k)
- Parking and stopping on red routes and yellow lines
- Driving, stopping and parking in bus lanes
- Stopping in yellow box junctions
Surplus money collected from council run parking schemes is used to help fund concessionary fares, road safety schemes, parking facilities and improvements to the local environment.
