Best value surveys

Every three years, councils across England conduct a number of best value surveys, to see what local residents think about the area and local services. Questionnaires for each survey are sent to a random sample of around 5,000 residents.
The most recent round of surveys took place mostly in the Autumn of 2006. The focus was on five key areas:

  • General survey
  • Planning survey
  • Library survey
  • Housing benefits survey
  • Housing tenants' survey

The general survey examined local views on a range of issues, including antisocial behaviour, waste collection, recreational facilities and participation in local decision-making. The others were specific to particular services and the people who used them.

Your responses to these surveys have helped us better to understand what local issues you consider to be important, which of these most need to be addressed, and in what way local services need to be improved. We are now working to ensure that your priorities are reflected in our service delivery and partnership activities.

Below is a presentation of findings from the general best value survey, which is the biggest and most wide-ranging survey carried out in this series. A short summary is also included.

The presentation compares local results to those for London as a whole. There are always differences between the two, but not all are significant: the presentation particularly highlights those that are, using green or red as appropriate.
