How to pay

As part of Tower Hamlets' commitment to reducing costs and improving efficiency, we are encouraging people to pay their council tax bills by using the direct debit scheme or by standing order.

If you do not already pay your council tax and rates by one of these methods, please contact revenue services and we will be pleased to send you a form.

You can pay your council tax and rates in the following ways:

• Pay your council tax online by using billpayment. You will need to register with Alliance & Leicester BillPay at www.billpayment.co.uk.
  
  BillPay utilises advanced levels of data encryption technology to ensure that your sensitive banking details are transmitted in a secure and confidential way. To find out more about billpay, visit www.billpayment.co.uk.
  
  Once you have registered, you can also pay bills to other registered companies.
  
• Debit card (Switch, Delta, or Solo) by telephoning 020 7364 3800.
  
• Credit card by telephoning 020 7364 3800 (please note, credit card payments will incur the issuers transaction fee - the appropriate %charge will be notified before payment is taken).
  
• In person - at the cashiers' office at 62 Roman Road, London E2 0PG. (Open Monday to Friday 9am to 4.30pm)
  
• At one of four automatic telling machines
  located at the town hall and one stop shops
  (machines accept cash or cheques)
  
• At any post office using your council tax payment card.
  
• At any outlet displaying the pay point symbol.
  
• By cheque or postal order payable to: "London
  Borough of Tower Hamlets" and addressed to PO Box No. 429, 62 Roman Road, London E2 0PG. (Please write your account number with your name and address on the back of the cheque.)

Through your bank using personalised payment stationery supplied by the revenue services team.

Through you bank's telephone banking service, quoting the following Tower Hamlets details:
Account Number: 61200069.
Sort Code: 08-90-76.
Your Council tax reference number

We do not send receipts for postal payments unless you ask for one and provide a stamped addressed envelope.
