Trading standards
The council's trading standards office advises
on and enforces a wide range of laws designed to protect Tower
Hamlet consumers. There are numerous laws in place to protect
consumers, including product safety, product counterfeiting, fair
trading, food labelling and description of goods.

Excess
packaging
Trading Standards are responsible for enforcing regulations
designed to limit the amount of packaging that producers
use. Consumers can
report to us goods that are needlessly over-packaged.
Product
safety
The Trading Standards service has an important
role in supporting and advising businesses, as well as cracking
down on unsafe products and unscrupulous traders.
Weights and
measures
Trading Standards are required to ensure that
all goods sold are correctly weighed and measured in accordance
with current legislation.
