Licences &
street trading
Tower Hamlets Council is responsible for the
control and licensing of an extensive range of activities and
businesses in the borough.
Licence applications under the Licensing Act 2003
A licence is required for the following premises:
- Pubs and night-clubs
- Off licences and shops selling alcohol
- Restaurants serving alcohol
- Businesses selling hot food and drinks between 2300 hours and
0500 hours
- Hotels, guest houses and other places that sell alcohol
- Provision of public entertainment
- Theatres and amateur dramatic clubs
- Cinemas
- Indoor sporting events
- Occasional entertainment of music or dancing or where alcohol
is sold.
An individual also needs to hold a
licence. This is granted by the local authority where you
live, not where you work, this may not be Tower Hamlets.
Alcohol and
entertainment licence
The Licensing Act 2003 has combined six
existing licenses covering the sale and supply of alcohol, the
provision of regulated entertainment, and the provision of late
night refreshment and has replaced them with a single system of
premises licences.
