Recycling and waste

Recycling in Tower Hamlets is quick and easy. It’s about making a simple choice between putting items in your bin or recycling them.

Even better than recycling is reducing the amount of waste we produce in the first place and this can save you lots of money too.

Please use the links on the left to find out more about our services.

Swap Event

Our next Swap Event is taking place on Saturday June 27 at 11am - 3pm.

Where: St James The Less Church, St James's Avenue, London E2 9JD

Bring along clean, reusable items that you no longer want and take away items that you like for free. Bring for swapping:

  • Books
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Clothes
  • Paired shoes
  • Bric-a-brac and household items (e.g. plant pots, CD racks etc.)
  • Toys

If you have something large, such as furniture or even a shed, don’t bring it. Instead bring along a printed photo and/or description of the item along with your contact details for anyone who may be interested in the item.

The following can be accepted for recycling (but these can’t be taken away):

  • Small electrical appliances e.g. hairdryers, toasters, kettles, mobile phones
  • Household batteries
  • Printer cartridges
  • Low energy light bulbs
  • Bikes

For more information about the event please email recycling@towerhamlets.gov.uk or call 020 7364 5004.
