Recycling and waste

Recycling in Tower Hamlets is quick and easy. It’s about making a simple choice between putting items in your bin or recycling them.

Even better than recycling is reducing the amount of waste we produce in the first place and this can save you lots of money too.

Finalists need your votes in ‘recycle more’ radio commercial competition

Pupils from Tower Hamlets are in with a chance to have their radio advert professionally made and broadcast live. All primary and secondary schools in the borough were invited to take part in the Real World Challenge organised by the council's waste contractor, Veolia, and UTV Media.

Pupils were asked to write and record a 60-second radio advert encouraging listeners to recycle more at home as part of the U Create project.

Entries were judged and the finalists were Culloden Primary, Old Ford Primary, London Islamic School and Central Foundation – both secondary schools.

Commercials by the finalists have now be uploaded to the Veolia YouTube channel, and the public will be given two weeks to vote for their favourite. The radio advert with the most views and likes will then be declared the winner.
