Recycling and waste
Recycling in Tower Hamlets is quick and easy. It’s about making
a simple choice between putting items in your bin or recycling
Even better than recycling is reducing the amount of waste we
produce in the first place and this can save you lots of money

Bring along reusable, clean items that are no
longer wanted and take away things you want for free.
Books, DVDs, CDs, clothes, paired shoes, toys and bric-a-brac
can be brought along. The items must be clean, in good condition
and something that you are proud to hand on. In return you can
swap them for anything that takes their fancy.
Large items can also be swapped, such as furniture or even a
shed, but they are not to be brought to the event. Instead bring
along a photo or description of the item along with your contact
Items such as household batteries, printer cartridges, low
energy light bulbs, bikes and small electrical appliances like
hairdryers, toasters, kettles and mobile phones can be brought
along for recycling, but cannot be swapped.
For more information about swap events email
or call 020 7364 5004.
Tower Hamlets Council provides a weekly refuse and recycling
collection to residents and figures released for April to September
2013 show that a staggering 2.27 million collections have taken
place over that period.
