Fostering, adopting & looked after children
Tower Hamlets is very keen to build a strong pool of foster
carers and adoptive parents. Our Family Placements Service is
responsible for recruiting, preparing and assessing people who
would like to foster or adopt. Once approved, we will provide you
with support and training to help you with your role.
Tower Hamlets also offer a range of services and support to
families and children in the borough. Services are also provided
for children with disabilities, those experiencing mental health
difficulties and their families.
Adoption
Adoption is a way of providing a new family
for a child when living with their birth family isn't possible. The
arrangement becomes legally binding when a court makes an adoption
order.
Fostering
Fostering provides homes for children who are
temporarily unable to live with their own families but who wish to
maintain contact. Support is provided for the children, the
foster carers and the family of the fostered children.
Hospice care for
children
Children's hospices provide care for children
suffering from life-limiting conditions in a home-from-home
environment. Care is provided for the child and their family for as
long as is necessary, including post bereavement support.
