Tower Hamlets Council keeps a record of all
births, marriages and deaths that have taken place in the borough
since official registration began in 1837. The council also has
extensive archives of documents on the borough itself, including
parish registers, maps, plans and other historic documents, which
can provide an insight into the history of the Tower Hamlets.

Local history &
archives library
Tower Hamlets Local History and Archives library is the place to
come to view our archives. Archives are original documents produced
by official bodies, societies and individuals that are no longer in
current use.
The library covers the area of the present-day London borough of
Tower Hamlets - the original East End of London which, until
1965, comprised of the boroughs of Bethnal Green, Poplar and
Stepney.
