Community transport services
Tower Hamlets Council provides community
transport for members of the community who are unable to use
conventional public transport, as it is not suitable for their
travel needs. The service also provides and manages the statutory
transport needs of children and adults with special educational
needs.
Freedom pass for
disabled people
A bus pass is available to Tower Hamlet
residents that are physically disabled, have a learning difficulty
or were refused a driving licence under section 92 of the Road
Traffic Act 1988.
Freedom pass
Tower Hamlets residents over 60 years old are
entitled to an older person bus pass. This pass offers
concessionary travel on buses, trains and other forms of local
public transport.
The motability
scheme
The Motability Scheme provides disabled people
with safe, reliable and affordable personal transport through a
contract or hire purchase arrangement. Cars, powered wheelchairs
and scooters are available through this scheme.
The taxicard
scheme
The taxi card scheme is for residents with
serious mobility impairments who are unable to use buses or trains,
allowing them to travel in a black taxi at subsidised rates.
