Street care and cleaning
The council is responsible for cleaning all
public roads, footpaths and market areas in the borough. Removing
abandoned vehicles, emptying litter bins, cleaning up dumped
rubbish, removing graffiti and washing down pavements are all part
of the street cleaning service.
Market
cleaning
Tower Hamlets Council is responsible for
keeping the local market grounds clean and free from litter.
Littering
Littering in a public place is unsightly,
dangerous to animals, and is an offence. The average fine for
littering is around £95, but can be up to £2,500. The council
provides and maintains bins to try and prevent the depositing of
litter in public places and arrange for the bins to be emptied on a
regular basis.
Flytipping
The council has responsibility for acting on
reports of flytipping to both remove the waste and to locate and
prosecute the offenders.
Graffiti: reporting
and removal
Tower Hamlets Council aims to remove all
graffiti on public buildings and structures. If the graffiti is
obscene or racist, we will aim to have it removed within 24 hours,
depending on its location.
Find it, Fix it
The Find it, Fix it team will tackle eyesores
across the borough. In rapid response vehicles the teams will
identify and aim to fix problems such as graffiti, fly posting,
over hanging vegetation and fly tipping. The Find it, Fix it team
will undertake work on any land, either privately or council
owned.
Residents can report problems for the Find it,
Fix it team via Streetline on 020 7364 5004.
