Taxis & minicabs

Tower Hamlets Council has information on all the taxi ranks and licensed minicabs in the borough and is responsible for regulating the number of taxis it licences.

The council also runs a taxicard scheme which offers reduced fares on black cabs for people with severe mobility problems or disabilities which prevent them from using public transport.

Tower Hamlets also supports Transport for London’s Cabwise service. Simply text HOME to 60835 and the number of one taxi and two licensed minicabs, in your area, will be sent directly to your phone.

Private hire vehicle (minicab) licences

Private hire vehicles are vehicles that cannot be hailed from the street, and journeys must be pre-booked. Vehicles are tested and inspected before a licence can be issued to ensure that they are mechanically fit, safe and comfortable.
