Nursery schools
Children can start a nursery school or nursery
class attached to a primary school from the
age of three. Some nursery places are for a
half-day (either a morning or an
afternoon), others are for the whole school
day.
Parents who would like a nursery
place for their children should get in touch with the
school preferred when the child reaches the age of
two. The actual age at which children can start will
depend on the number of places available but will not be
before the age of three.
A full list of nursery classes and nursery
schools can be obtained from the Family
Information Service on 020 7364 6495 or you can search the
Family Services Directory.
You can also download the Starting
School in Tower Hamlets (pdf, 2034) booklet 2012 which
explains:
- the different types of nursery and primary schools
available
- how schools make decisions about applications for places
- how parents are notified about the outcome of their
applications
- what parents can do if they are not given a school place at
their preferred school
For a paper copy of the booklet in English, Bengali or Somali,
please contact the Pupil Admissions Team on 020 7364 5006.
You can also
search for a school in Tower Hamlets and across
London online. Please note the length of time that a
child's name has been on a nursery class or school's waiting list
does not give the child priority over other applicants; please
refer to the school's admission policies for how schools make
decisions about places.
