School clubs and activities
Tower Hamlets extended services shapes the extended activities
offered at local schools and measures their progress. Activities
the schools may offer include clubs and societies for students
during lunch times, after school and during school holidays.
The service is made up of the following teams who all contribute
to the development and delivery of extended activities in schools
within the local authority:
- extended school clusters
- out of school hours learning (study support) service
- health through education team
- junior youth service
The government expect all schools to provide or signpost to a
core offer of extended services by 2010. These activities
include:
- a varied range of activities including study support activities
for primary and secondary schools, combined in primary schools with
childcare, available from 8am-6pm, all year round in line with
demand
- parenting and family support
- swift and easy access to specialist services to meet the
behavioural, emotional and health needs of children and young
people
- community use of school facilities.
There are four cluster coordinators who work with schools and
agencies in their locality to support the extended schools
services. Each cluster coordinator covers a paired local area
partnership (LAP) and is based in the core partnership schools.
The core partnership schools are Swanlea Secondary School (LAPs
1&2), Mulberry Secondary School (LAPs 3&4), Central
Foundation Girls’ School (LAPs 5&6) and George Green’s School
(LAPs 7&8).
