Educational psychology services
The EPS is part of the Children Schools
& families directorate. We work with parents,
teachers and schools to provide psychology services to
children and young people in Tower Hamlets.
The council’s team of educational
psychologists provide both child-focused and parent-focused
services.
Its child-focused services include identifying, assessing a
child's special educational needs and working with adults
especially those in schools so that they are able to meet these
needs. Our central aim is to enable children and young people
or children experiencing difficulties to be as successful at school
as possible. We want them to be as independent and self
reliant as possible.
Each educational psychologist works with a
group of schools and most work carried out is centred on these
schools. Parents who are worried about their children's progress
should talk to school staff first.
Other professionals such as speech and
language therapists or doctors may refer very young children who
are not in school to the EPS.
In partnership with the Parents Advice Centre
(PAC), the EPS provides monthly drop-in sessions for parents.
Appointments are made through the PAC.
Children are never seen individually without
their parents' permission.
The range of parent-focused services are aimed at helping
parents improve their relationships with their child. These
services are delivered through children's centres across the
borough. A few individual schools have chosen to
invite the EPS to work with their parents in a similar
fashion.

about their child will need to talk to school staff first. To
