Most school admissions take place when children start reception
class or when they transfer from primary to secondary school at the
age of 11.
In-year admissions take place outside the normal
admission period like for children who have recently
moved to the area and do not have a school place.
Before you apply
Please read the Starting

How to apply
Applications for in-year admissions must be made through Pupil
Services, who coordinate this process.
To make an in-year application, please complete the
relevant in-year common application form for primary
(PDF, 625kb) and secondary (PDF,
You can also obtain a form from all primary and
secondary schools or by calling the Pupil Services on 020
7364 5006 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are applying to an academy, free school
or voluntary-aided school, you may also need to complete a
supplementary information form (SIF), which can be obtained
from and must be returned to the school.
You may also need to provide a baptism certificate or priest's
reference. Further information on the schools admissions policy
should be obtained directly from the school.
If your child is already in school and you are applying for a
school transfer this will only take place at the beginning of a
school term or half term.
You should use the same form to apply for a school transfer but
note that transfers are processed in accordance with our timetable
which can be found in the accompanying guidance notes or the
year admissions leaflet (PDF, 68kb).
SchoolView is the pupil admissions web-portal for schools
to log in and view information about in-year admissions as well
as checking student details.
It allows school users to log on and look at the
information held about pupil preferences as updated by the local
authority; this is especially helpful for in-year admissions.
Schools can update the number of places
available so the local authority can make informed
decisions when offering places.
